The Antonio Gálvez Estate is pleased to share the use of one of Antonio Gálvez’s portraits of Severo Sarduy on the cover of Barroco and Other Writings, published by Stanford University Press.
This new English edition brings renewed attention to Sarduy’s influential reflections on the Baroque and the Neo-Baroque, while Gálvez’s image offers a powerful visual encounter with the Cuban writer, poet and critic.
The collaboration highlights the impact and enduring relevance of Gálvez’s photographic archive in contemporary literary, academic and cultural publishing.

Marta Kuhn-Weber ( 13. September 1903 in St. Johann † 10. December 1990 in Paris), was a German painter, sculptor and doll maker.
Several Antonio Gálvez’s portraits of Marta Kuhn-Weber are presented in this museum exhibition alongside her dolls, creating a rare dialogue between the artist and the mysterious world she brought into existence. Their relationship was born from mutual artistic recognition: Gálvez did not approach Kuhn-Weber’s work as a simple subject to be documented, but as an inner universe to be revealed !
Through his eye, her dolls seemed to emerge from silence with an unsettling, almost human presence. The Monsters of Paris Collection therefore does more than represent Marta Kuhn-Weber; it restores her to the very atmosphere of strangeness, intimacy, and creative solitude from which her work was born.

Gálvez, Spanish artist was born in Barcelona in 1928 and lived in París from 1965 to 1992. His photo.montages are very well known in the art world, as they are also related to Surrealism. This exhibition shows portraits realized by Antonio Gálvez since the decade of 1960.
This collection reflects his relashionship with famous literalture, art and intellectual personnalities. For example María Zambrano, Luis Buñuel, Marguerite Duras, Mikis Theodorakis, Francis Bacon, Anaïs Nin, Alejo Carpentier, André Malraux, Octavio Paz, Julio Cortázar, Wifredo Lam, Gabriel García Márquez, Günter Grass, Haroldo de Campos, Juan Goytisolo, José Ángel Valente and many others.
The exhibition integrates 78 incredible portraits and is completed by Antonio Galvez's personal documents and belongings such as books, magazines, letters and vintage photographies.
